Detailed description of Erin Hills Golf Course

Erin Hills Golf Course is a public 18 hole golf course located in Hartford, Wisconsin.

Erin Hills first opened for play in 2006. The course was designed by Mike Hurdzan and Dana Fry and Golf Digest architecture editor Ron Whitten.

The course has no cart paths and is a walking only course.

Erin Hills' first national event took place the June 16-21, 2008 when the course hosted the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship. The course also hosted the 2011 U.S. Amateur, and will host the 2017 U.S. Open.

When building the course, care was taken to not disturb the natural glacial dune land forms during construction. Dirt was moved on only four holes, greens were cored out on ridges and knolls and the fairways were slit-seeded with fescue grass. The links-style course can be stretched to a mind-boggling 8,200 yards for tournament play and features firm turf and fast, multi-tiered greens protected by shaggy-edged bunkers.

The course plays to a par-72 with 5 sets of tee boxes to accommodate different skill levels. The Black tees are set at 7,824 yards, Blue at 7,112 yards, Green at 6,544 yards, Yellow at 5,434 yards and Red at 4,543 yards.

Erin Hills is one of three Hurzdan-Fry designs in Wisconsin. The others include Troy Burne in Hudson, and Wild Rock Golf Course in Wisconsin Dells.

To prepare for its hosting of the 2017 U.S. Open, Erin Hills will be closed for 8 months. The course will be closed from October 2016 until after the U.S. Open ends on June 18, 2017.
